The process of manufacturing OSB begins with the collection and preparation of wood. Typically, wood sources include logs, sawmill residues, and reclaimed wood. These woods are cut into specific-sized strands, usually about 6 feet long, 2 feet wide, and 0.25 inches thick.

The strands are fed into a specialized processing machine where they undergo treatment to ensure their quality and stability. This process may involve debarking, removing impurities, and adjusting the moisture content and dimensions of the strands.

Once the strands are prepared, they are mixed with resin in a blending vat. The addition of resin helps enhance the strength and durability of OSB. Common resins used include phenolic resin and MDI resin.

The mixed wood strands and resin form a mat, which is then conveyed to a continuous press. Here, the mat is continuously compressed into a continuous panel and fed into a hot press.
